You’re desperately searching page after page of rankings but realize online, your business is nowhere to be found. You’re not getting any page views because no one knows you exist. If you’re not getting traffic to your website, then how do you expect to optimize or get any conversions out of it?

Ok take a deep breath. You can’t run before learning how to walk so don’t even stress over your website’s SEO or your conversion rate. At this point, they don’t really matter if you’re not getting any traffic to begin with. But there in lies the problem. How do you get the word out about your business when you’re brand new?

The short answer is this, you have to drive traffic to your website. This is stage one. The more viewers you get heading on over will help you build your reputation as well as your search engine rankings.

So get to it! Here are 4 steps you will need to take in order to get traffic to your website.

1. Start with a content strategy.
Focus on creating in depth content that interests your audience and provides real value. Provide illustrations and photos that resonate with the topic. Write in a conversational tone. Promote your content to people who regularly share information in your industry.

2. Then write and share blog posts.
Create extremely clickable headlines, share your posts widely on social, run a contest or giveaway, and consider working with influencers. By that, I mean you need to get the word out to anyone who will listen. Build your email list, expand to other social platforms, and work consistently on writing interesting content with images.

3. Advertise with social media.
Get eyes on your content. Aggressively promote your content to anyone who might have an interest in it. Build awareness ads on Facebook. Cross-post it on other sites. Build a following on LinkedIn and Facebook to generate a source of traffic directly to your website.

4. Reach out and help your clients.
Post resourceful information, how to’s, tips and advice on Yahoo! Answers and Quora, You can build brand exposure and recognition by being recognized as an industry leader through providing detailed advice. Give substance by answering questions with thoughtful, original answers.

Once you’re getting a fair amount of traffic to your website, you can optimize your content and pages based on the behavior patterns of your target audience. Then you can work on getting leads to convert later. That’s stage two. Just remember, you have to walk before you can run. Complete the above steps.
